Theme year 2015: People and science in dialog
All researchers—and thus all universities, research institutions, and research-based companies—have a duty to keep citizens informed about what they are doing and to share their knowledge.
In this way, they make research transparent and understandable and, in the best case scenario, also generate enthusiasm for it. Ideally, this should not take the form of a monologue from the scientific community, but rather a dialogue with the public. This dialogue can grow into deeper participation in science, giving rise to joint engagement between civil society and science.
Kick-off of the theme years
The theme for 2015 – the first of three themed years – was therefore "People and Science in Dialogue." The aim was to provide a common platform for all initiatives that bring science and civil society together. All stakeholders in Mainz and the surrounding region were explicitly invited to participate.
Review: Program highlights
The result of this call was a colorful program of events that invited all citizens to have their say, experience, participate, and get involved. In addition to a large number of individual events, the 2015 theme year featured three central events:
- A major science conference organized by the MAINZER WISSENSCHAFTSALLIANZ (Mainz Science Alliance) and the state capital of Mainz at Mainz City Hall on March 6, 2015, to kick off the theme years
- MAINZ SCIENCE MARKET on September 12 and 13, 2015, under the motto "People and Science in Dialogue"
- Profile talk by the MAINZER WISSENSCHAFTSALLIANZ at the Mainz State Theater on November 10, 2015, also under the motto of the 2015 theme year
