2018 theme year: People and communication
People are not only the focus of much research, but also of the themed years of the MAINZER WISSENSCHAFTSALLIANZ. In 2018 - to mark the 550th anniversary of the death of the inventor and great son of the city of Mainz, Johannes Gutenberg - the focus was on people and communication!
February 2018 marked the 550th anniversary of Johannes Gutenberg's death. His invention, printing with movable type, led to one of the greatest media revolutions in history and, as a result, to significant changes in human communication behavior. With the penetration of digital media into our communication channels, we are currently experiencing a comparable upheaval.
The Mainz Science Alliance's theme for 2018, "People and Communication," was therefore closely linked to Mainz's Gutenberg Year 2018 and combined a look back at history with research and further development of the communication of tomorrow.
The focus was on people and their diverse ways of communicating. The media and their constant innovative development played an essential role in this.
Media City Mainz
Mainz is a city of media: the state capital is home to ZDF and SWR, and several institutes at universities and colleges conduct research and teach on the further development and application of modern media and media reception. Many start-ups in the field of communication have settled in Mainz. The scientific museums and research institutes develop innovative communication formats and test the use of new media. The 2018 theme thus brings another important focus of Mainz science and research to the public's attention.
