Spring flowers for the citizens of Mainz
Just in time for the change of flowers in the ornamental beds in mid-May, the Green and Environment Agency has scheduled the removal of plants from five inner-city beds by private individuals and integrated them into the work processes.
This spring, starting Saturday, May 2, 2026, residents can “claim” the two large flower beds at Schillerplatz and Trommler, as well as the three flower beds at Karmeliterplatz, and take the plants from there for personal use.
Pansies, snapdragons, and ranunculus can then bloom for a few more weeks in private front yards, in pots, or on terraces as bright harbingers of spring, delighting the hearts of gardeners.
Starting Monday, May 18, 2026, city gardeners will then completely clear and till the areas and plant the summer flowers.
Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Environment Department, wishes all Mainz residents lots of fun with the campaign.
