The process to update the Integrated Development Concept for the City Center (IEK 2026) began in the summer of 2024 with a kickoff meeting followed by a tour of the city center with the commissioned planning firm Urbanista from Hamburg. After receiving the existing and ongoing concepts within the city center study area, Urbanista began a status analysis.

The goal of the process was to develop an updated concept that takes into account the social challenges and trends of recent years and serves as a roadmap for the forward-looking further development of Mainz’s downtown area.
