Sewer in Hindemitstraße damaged
A sewer in Hindemithstraße in the Lerchenberg district has been severely damaged. According to initial findings, at least one sewer house connection was drilled into during drilling work to reinforce a retaining wall at the former house number 5a and concrete was then poured into the sewer.
Since the wastewater could no longer flow past the section of the sewer filled with concrete, a backup occurred.
After the public works department responsible for the sewer system was notified of the damage on Thursday, two vacuum trucks immediately began pumping out the wastewater to relieve the pressure as quickly as possible.
As it later turned out, the sewer is filled with concrete over a length of about 15 meters and must be virtually completely replaced. The company in charge plans—as of now—to install a temporary solution by Friday evening. Until that is installed, the utility company’s flushing vehicles will periodically pump out the sewer above the damaged section so that wastewater from the two neighboring apartment buildings can continue to drain.
The replacement of the defective sewer section is expected to take at least until the end of next week—provided no further damage is discovered and everything goes according to plan.
Traffic is being rerouted past the construction site.
