Fire department deployment planning: thinking ahead before something happens
The Mainz Fire Department works daily to identify hazards early on and prepare for operations in the best possible way. In the area of fire department operational planning, framework and operational plans are regularly drawn up that specify how to proceed in the event of fires, storms, hazardous substances, or major incidents.
Current developments are constantly taken into account, such as:
- E-mobility with new fire risks from batteries
- Animal diseases such as bird flu
- Consequences of climate change, such as heavy rain or vegetation fires
- Changes in the development of urban infrastructure
This ensures that the Mainz Fire Department remains prepared for current and future challenges – for the safety of the population.
The alarm and response order (AAO)
When an emergency call is received via 112, everything runs according to plan:
the alarm and deployment procedure (AAO) specifies which vehicles and units are alerted for which incidents – ensuring that the right help arrives quickly on site.
Each emergency call is assigned a keyword (e.g., "apartment fire" or "traffic accident") by the control center. This keyword automatically determines the response. In Mainz, a distinction is made between two basic tactical units:
