"Solar heating"

PART 10 of the info series on solar energy

The new Building Energy Act stipulates that from 2024, heating systems installed in new buildings must be powered by at least 65% renewable energy. For new heating systems in existing buildings, longer transitional periods apply, which are linked to municipal heat planning. Many people are therefore asking themselves the question "How can I heat with the sun?" and "What options are worthwhile for me personally?".

Part 10 of the independent and comprehensive online information session on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., will provide a detailed overview of solar heating. The key requirements of the Building Energy Act (GEG) will be explained, and the options for meeting these legal requirements using solar energy will be highlighted. Various heating technologies—such as heat pumps, solar thermal systems, photovoltaic modules, heating elements, and air conditioning units—will be presented, along with practical insights from operating a heat pump powered by a PV system. Finally, subsidy programs will be presented.

This practical technical presentation is supplemented by case studies and allows you to ask questions directly to the experts, so that you can then take the next steps toward installing your own solar heating system.

The event is part of the online seminar series "Solar and Heat."

“Although we usually think of green electricity when it comes to the energy transition, heat production accounts for a large portion of local energy consumption. Therefore, the switch to renewable energy is also necessary in the heating sector. This transformation is going very well, especially when combined with the installation of a solar system,” says Janina Steinkrüger, Head of the Environmental Department, looking forward to the tenth event in the “Solar” online seminar series.

The information series is organized by climate protection managers in collaboration with adult education centers and the consumer advice center in the Rheinhessen-Nahe and Vorderpfalz regions.
