A disclosure restriction in the population register is only entered under strict conditions.
To do so, you must demonstrate that disclosure of information from the register could pose a threat to your life, health, personal freedom, or similar interests worthy of protection, or to those of another person.
Setting up a transmission block
This means that no personal data will be transmitted to:
- Address book publishers
- Religious communities
- Political parties and voter groups for the purpose of referendums, birthdays, and wedding anniversaries
You can request this without giving a reason.
We will continue to provide registration information to third parties.
Setting up an information block:
- This allows you to prevent registration information from being disclosed to private individuals and companies.
- You must have an important reason (e.g., danger to life, health, personal freedom, adoption) and provide proof of this. This could be a court ruling or an employment contract, for example.
- Your membership of a particular professional group (e.g., employees of a public authority) is not a valid reason.
Applying for a restriction:
- In person
- in writing (form)
- You can also apply for a transmission block online.
The block takes effect immediately after registration. Information blocks are valid for 2 years. Transmission blocks remain in place until you revoke them.
Before the block expires, the Citizen Service will write to you and remind you that the block is about to expire.
It is advisable to contact the relevant authority before submitting your application to find out whether a restriction is possible in your case.
The disclosure restriction is entered upon request. When submitting your request, you must present facts and provide credible evidence as to why the disclosure of information could pose a threat to your life, health, personal freedom, or similar interests worthy of protection. The request can be made in writing or in person by visiting the relevant authority.
Your information will then be checked by the relevant authority. If this check reveals that the relevant conditions are met, an information block will be entered in the register for two years, which applies to all types of information from the register provided to private individuals and non-public bodies.
The restriction only applies to the residence for which it was requested.
You can have the information block extended after the period has expired.
The disclosure restriction ends after two years and can be extended upon request.
