You may not block off parking spaces on your own—for example, to load or unload a moving truck during a move. This requires a permit from the Department of Motor Vehicles to establish a temporary no-parking zone.

If you wish to establish a no-stopping zone in connection with a construction site or construction work, please use the service “Apply for Construction Work or a Construction Site on Public Roads.”

Applications by businesses, companies, or private individuals: 

• at the Department of Motor Vehicles
• in person only by appointment
• in writing by mail, email, or fax (by submitting an informal application)
• At least 3 weeks in advance, as the no-stopping zone must be established 5 full days before the move

The Road Traffic Authority issues the permit.

Please note that you must arrange for the no-parking signs yourself, as they are not provided by the City of Mainz.

The installation and inspection of traffic signs must be carried out by a person with the necessary expertise in traffic safety at roadwork sites.

An MVAS certificate (= proof of the required expertise in traffic safety for roadwork sites) is required for this.

Individuals without this certification are not permitted to install signs or barriers in public traffic areas. In this case, you must contact a traffic safety company.

A written request should include the following (also possible by email):

• Period of closure (date and time)
• Street where the no-stopping zone is to be established
• Length of the no-stopping zone (number of parking spaces)
• Address and telephone number of the applicant
• Name and address of the person responsible for traffic safety, including telephone number and MVAS certification
