When disposing of wastewater via the sewer system, a distinction is made between different types of water depending on how it is produced:

• Wastewater
• Rainwater

Rainwater refers to rain, snow, hail, sleet, fog, and dew. In other words, moisture that falls on a property and enters the sewer system from there.

The Mainz municipal utility company charges recurring fees for the discharge of precipitation water, insofar as the costs are not covered by one-time contributions for investment expenses incurred during the initial construction of the sewer pipes.

The contribution obligation applies to properties for which there is a legal and actual possibility of using the public wastewater disposal facility.

Processing depends on the individual case.

• The contribution rate is currently 78 cents per square meter of the calculated runoff area.
• The requirement is made annually by means of a corresponding assessment notice.
