On this page, the Mainz city administration provides information in text and pictures about the current construction progress of the town hall renovation.
Information on construction progress (February 2026)
What is the current status of construction at Mainz City Hall? In the photos in the gallery, you can see, for example, the installation of the support structure for the steel framework in the inner courtyard, which serves as the foundation for the horizontal glazing.
In addition, the facade scaffolding has been dismantled following the completion of each respective facade. On the north side, it has already been completely dismantled, while on Jockel-Fuchs-Platz and on the side facing the Rhine riverbank, it has only been partially dismantled. The building services—namely the heating, plumbing, sprinkler system, and electrical work—have been systematically installed throughout the building.
Work is currently beginning on finishing the floor slabs with drywall, plaster, and paint.
Next milestone:
In calendar week 13, installation of the steel support structure will begin; this will be mounted to the support structure.

The renovation of Mainz City Hall is proceeding according to plan. Although costs have risen by €16 million, the additional costs are significantly below the national average at 15.6 percent. Construction is on track, with completion scheduled for July 2027. In addition, an information campaign is being launched to document the progress transparently.
Information on construction progress (June to August 2025)
The technical systems are currently being installed, including the complex and extensive control center for the new ventilation system, which has been installed in the basement rooms. The individual pipe systems now run through the entire building. Interior work is also progressing, with the individual offices already being separated using a stud construction method, so that the restored room structure is already clearly visible. Hundreds of pallets of foam glass have been installed on the roof as new insulation to ensure that the building can be used in an energy-efficient and rainproof manner in the future. The north and east sides of the new façade and the inner courtyard cladding have been installed, so that work is now concentrated on the west side at Jockel-Fuchs-Platz. At the same time, planning and tendering for the final stages of the upcoming interior work are in full swing at the administrative level.

The Mainz City Hall renovation project remains on schedule and within budget: so far, nothing stands in the way of its timely completion.
The new facade of the city hall combines functionality with climate-friendly construction. Ceramic tile elements imitate the original marble slabs and, according to a study by the University of Milan, can break down 32 kilograms of nitrogen oxides annually.
The renovation of the lecture hall ceiling is in its final stages. There is also good news regarding the interior work and technical building equipment, where everything is proceeding according to plan.
The redesign of Jockel-Fuchs-Platz in front of the town hall is also planned, giving it a friendly and inviting design.
Information on construction progress (November 2024)
The renovation of Mainz City Hall is currently in the shell renovation phase. Key milestones at present are the reconstruction of the lecture hall ceiling and the construction of the new access core for the public roof.
The installation of technical building equipment and window elements on the Rhine front recently began. For the trades in KG 400 (technical systems), work is initially focusing on the ventilation systems and wastewater technology.
