Call for help from more than 50 local authority representatives to the federal government
Top representatives from numerous German cities, including Mainz, have once again written to the Federal Chancellor. Their message: "We are losing our ability to act every day". Their demand: 32 billion euros net relief for the municipalities.
Mainz also supports the demands of the campaign alliance
Mainz Mayor Nino Haase and Mayor and Finance Commissioner Daniel Köbler support the demands of the “For the Dignity of Our Cities” coalition. From Mainz’s perspective, they emphasize: “Despite strong economic growth and a favorable job market, the city of Mainz is also affected by the nationwide financial crisis facing local governments. We now expect the state government to reform the municipal financial equalization system in a way that also provides tangible relief for the state capital. Germany also needs a fair distribution of funds among the federal government, the states, and municipalities, as well as fundamental reforms that include a review of responsibilities and efficiency improvements—as a positive vision for the future of a modern and effective state at all levels.”
The city of Mainz has been a member of the “For the Dignity of Our Cities” action alliance since its founding.
