The association primarily pursues the following goals:

• Improving interdisciplinary cooperation with the integration of medical specialist groups and cooperation with hospitals and other service providers and social service providers to optimize patient care
• Providing further training for members
• Implementation of quality assurance measures (e.g., quality circle work)
• Implementing guidelines for the medical and social psychiatric care of patients and ensuring compliance with these guidelines
• Promoting patient self-help groups
• Patient information
• Ensuring ethical standards.
