Only your place of residence is entered in your passport, not your exact address. The place of residence in your passport only needs to be changed if your domestic place of residence changes.
You can have the place of residence entry in your passport changed in person or by a person authorized in writing at the relevant authority in your new place of residence.
If you move abroad and have a new place of residence there, you can have your place of residence abroad entered in your passport. If your foreign place of residence has not yet been determined, you can have your current place of residence entered.
If you change your place of residence within the country:
- Report to the registration office responsible for you.
- You can authorize another person in writing to have your change of residence entered in your passport at your local registration office.
- You can have your passport updated at the same time as you re-register your place of residence in Germany. To do this, present your valid passport when you re-register.
- The registration office will affix an official residence sticker with your new place of residence to a free space in data field 11 or on the page for official notes in your passport.
If your place of residence abroad changes:
- You can register with the German diplomatic mission responsible for your new place of residence abroad, for example, an embassy or consulate.
- There is no obligation to register with a German diplomatic mission abroad.
There are no notes or special features.
After moving to a new place of residence within the country, you must have the place of residence entry in your passport changed immediately.
