If you would like to offer occasional passenger transport services through your bus company, you need a permit to do so.

Occasional passenger transport includes:

• Excursion trips
• Vacation trips
• Trips with rental buses

An occasional service trip must:

• return to the point of departure
• specify the route in advance
• apply equally to all passengers
• be operated using motor vehicles that, by their design and equipment, are suitable and intended for the transportation of more than nine persons, including the driver.
• offer only one ticket for the entire trip

You will receive authorization for up to 10 years. After that, you must apply for a renewal.

For cross-border trips, you’ll need an additional permit in addition to the EU Community License.

If you merely arrange occasional transport services but do not operate them yourself, you do not need a permit.

• You can ensure the business's financial viability.
• You, or the person appointed to manage the business, can demonstrate that you are trustworthy.
• You or the person appointed to manage the business are professionally qualified.
• You have your registered office or branch in Germany.

There are no notes or special features.

• 3 months A decision
  on your application will be made within 3 months. Processing may be extended by 3 months if necessary.

Responsibility lies with the lower traffic authority of the respective independent city or district.

• Application for a Motor Coach Permit for Occasional Service, including the following information:  
  • Last name and first name
  • Residence and place of business
  • For individuals: date of birth, place of birth
  •  Number of vehicles, vehicle type, and passenger capacity of the vehicles to be used
• Certificates of employment or examination certificates attesting to your professional qualifications
• Certificate of equity capital, and any supplementary certificates if applicable, not older than 3 months
• Certificates regarding tax matters from the tax office, the municipality, the social security agency, and the workers’ compensation association, not older than 3 months:
  • from the company
  • the legal representative
  • the person appointed to manage the business or act as the managing director
• Certificate of Good Conduct
• Extract from the Central Trade Register
• Extract from the Driver Fitness Registry (FAER)
• List of vehicles
• Proof of liability insurance for buses, including the vehicle identification number (WKZ)
• Business Registration

The amount of the fees depends on

• the number of vehicles and
• the duration of the permit.
