Start of the market breakfast at Schillerplatz postponed to March 21

The announced start of the Market Breakfast 2026 at the new location Schillerplatz, which was planned for 14 March, will be postponed by one week in agreement with the organizer "Die Mainzer Winzer e.V.".

Head of Public Order Karsten Lange explains: "We expect an above-average number of visitors at the first market breakfast event at a newly planned location. "As several demonstrations have been announced for March 14, with the route passing through Schillerplatz, the Mainz winegrowers, the assembly authority, and the police have agreed to postpone the start of the market breakfast at Schillerplatz by one week to Saturday, March 21, 2026.

"The right to demonstrate is a valuable asset – in view of the conflicting interests, we have agreed to reschedule the start of the market breakfast at Schillerplatz for understandable reasons and to move it back a week in order to take any safety concerns into account. The enjoyment of wine, which is expected to be very popular, and the demonstration are difficult to reconcile," emphasizes Karsten Lange, who has been responsible for public order since March 1. "We ask the people of Mainz for their understanding." Approval for more than the three initial dates confirmed for Schillerplatz depends on a pending expert opinion.

Daniel Weyer, spokesperson for Mainzer Winzer e.V., emphasizes: "After consultation with the Legal and Public Order Office, we have jointly decided to postpone the start of the market breakfast at Schillerplatz to March 21, 2026, due to the demonstrations announced for March 14."

The market breakfast at Tritonplatz and Fischtor will take place as usual on March 14, 2026.
