Review: There were several burst water pipes in Mainz over Whitsun

Over the Whitsun weekend, there were a total of four burst water pipes in the Mainz districts of Finthen, Hechtsheim and Altstadt, which will result in construction work in the affected streets in the coming weeks.

Mainz-Finthen: An der Steige Closed

In the Mainz-Finthen district, An der Steige had to be closed to traffic. Traffic has since been rerouted via Kurmainzstraße – Am Obstmarkt – Aubachstraße or Poststraße – Kurmainzstraße. Pedestrians and cyclists can pass through the construction site. The renovation work is expected to continue until June 12, 2026.

Hechtsheim: Martin-Josef-Straße

In Mainz-Hechtsheim, a water main break affected Martin-Josef-Straße, which has therefore been closed since May 26 and is expected to remain closed until June 19, 2026.

Old Town doubly affected: Große Bleiche and Petersstraße

Due to a water main break on Große Bleiche (near house number 26), civil engineering work must be carried out to repair the line. Since then, traffic has been directed past the excavation site in a single lane via a traffic light system. The work by Mainzer Netze GmbH is expected to last until June 3, 2026.

Pedestrians and cyclists can pass through the construction site. The MVG bus stop will be relocated for the duration of the work.

Finally, there was another pipe break on Petersstraße near house number 10. Since then, traffic has been rerouted via Deutschhausplatz – Große Bleiche – Flachsmarktstraße – Petersstraße.
