Department IV - Social Affairs, Children, Youth and Health
Welcome to Department IV – Social Affairs, Children, Youth, and Health of the state capital Mainz.
We accompany and support the people of Mainz in all social situations – from early childhood to old age.
Our department supports families, children, and young people, promotes health in our city, and ensures that people in difficult life situations receive the help they need. We place particular emphasis on social justice, inclusion, and combating poverty. We are committed to ensuring that all people – regardless of their origin, income, age, or disability – can participate equally in social life.
Our tasks include:
- Counseling and support for families, children, and young people;
- Social services and assistance with living expenses;
- Measures to combat poverty and provide social security;
- Promotion of inclusion and accessibility;
- Health promotion and prevention;
- Coordination of mental health services;
- Support and integration of refugees;
- Planning and further development of social services in Mainz;
- Services and support for older people.
Our area of responsibility includes the Office for Social Services and the Office for Youth and Family. We also work closely with the Mainz Job Center, the Mainz Retirement Home, the integration companies in.betrieb and gpe, and Wohnbau Mainz.
Our goal is to enable social participation, promote equal opportunities, and make it easier for all people in Mainz to live a self-determined life with dignity.
If you need support, have questions about social services, or would like to find out about services for families, children, young people, older people, or people with special needs, we are happy to help.
We welcome your suggestions, questions, and feedback.
Yours,
Jana Schmöller
