The staff at the public guardianship authorities take care of the upbringing and care of children when their parents are no longer able or allowed to do so, either in whole or in part. This can happen if, for example, the parents' whereabouts are unknown, the mother is a minor, or the parents have had their custody rights revoked.
The guardianship and certification team handles the following tasks:
Guardianship: An application for guardianship can be made if paternity is to be established and/or maintenance claims are to be asserted.
Child support: Advice on this maintenance payment for single parents. This is paid if the parents of a child have separated and the parent who has custody is unable to support themselves due to childcare responsibilities.
Certifications: Free certification of acknowledgments of paternity and declarations of consent by the mother, joint custody declarations, and maintenance obligations if the parents are not married.
Declaration of custody: Application for joint custody of a child of unmarried parents.
Maintenance: Our staff advise on maintenance issues and on claiming maintenance.
Paternity determination: Advice and implementation of paternity determination.
