Ciao Amore

You can find a piece of that Italian feeling in the middle of Mainz at the "Ciao Amore" café.

Dolce Vita, espresso and a lot of heart

mainzMAGAZIN: “Ciao Amore”—the name sounds like a vacation in Italy. What’s the concept behind your café?
Ciao Amore: Exactly that. A little Italian getaway right in the heart of the city. We wanted to create a place that tastes of sunshine, espresso, and la dolce vita. With great attention to detail, nostalgic charm, and a music selection ranging from Italian classics to jazz and house, we invite you to unwind and feel at home. Less sterile, more warmth—like a journey to another time.

mainzMAGAZIN: Your love for Sicily is palpable throughout the café. What does the island mean to you personally, and how do you bring that feeling to Ciao Amore?
Ciao Amore: Through Giovanna, I’ve come to love and appreciate Sicily. Her past, her childhood, and her deep connection to Sicily therefore flow quite naturally into our café and its atmosphere. Part of this is reflected in the design. The warm wood tones and high-quality materials create a familiar and inviting atmosphere. The mix of old elements and modern accents evokes a classic Italian café and takes our guests on a little journey through time.

mainzMAGAZIN: What makes Ciao Amore unique compared to other cafés in the city?
Ciao Amore: For us, it’s all about genuine Italian quality. We work exclusively with original Italian products and suppliers and place great value on authentic cuisine. At the same time, the atmosphere here is warm and relaxed. Many customers tell us exactly that: that they simply feel at home here, just like visiting friends in Italy.

mainzMAGAZIN: What is your personal coffee philosophy?
Ciao Amore: For us, taste comes first. Our coffee should be strong and full-bodied with notes of dark chocolate. That’s exactly how we like to drink it ourselves. We’re all the more delighted that many of our customers appreciate this intense flavor just as much as we do.

mainzMAGAZIN: Many cafés focus on takeout—how important is sustainability to you?
Ciao Amore: Sustainability is very important to us. It’s especially important to us that as little food as possible goes to waste. That’s why we offer products that weren’t sold that day at half price the next day. We believe it’s important to actively address this issue and plan to integrate even more measures into our concept in the future to reduce waste. And fortunately, part of our Italian authenticity is that you don’t drink espresso from small plastic cups. Anyone who wants their espresso quickly can stop by and enjoy it from a proper cup—just as it should be.

mainzMAGAZIN: And finally: What are your hopes for the future of Ciao Amore and for the surrounding neighborhood?
Ciao Amore: We hope that Ciao Amore continues to be so well-received and that even more people find their way to us. For the neighborhood, we hope for an open, positive sense of community. Good conversation, mutual consideration, and friendly interaction make the neighborhood a better place to live for everyone.
